Green Technology

Definition

Green technology can be defined as a technology developed based on renewable natural resources in order to reduce environment harms from its production and usage.

Exemplification

There is a series of products which derives from renewable sources (bioplastic, recyclable raw material, hydrogen fuel, etc). To illustrate this example we have Dell's compact desktop, a computer made of 95% recyclable material and 70% less consumption than the ordinary desktops.
In the cellphone category, the Samsung's E200 Eco is made of bioplastic built up from natural plants like corn. Every ton of bioplastic used to produce the device is capable of reducing up to 2,16 ton of CO2, if compared to ordinary plastic made from oil.
Finally, the automobiles are also getting greener: the Pac-Car II is a ecological car powered by hydrogen that weights 30 kg and make 5385 km with a single gas liter.

The Earth's Layer

The Earth’s surface isn’t a giant shell, it has cracks that fits together like a puzzle. An earthquake happens when one of these giant piece moves, which are not predictable, but understandable why it happens by scientists.
The Earth's outmost layer, the crust, has pieces called tectonic plates. The edge between them are called plate boundaries, the boundaries have many faults. Changes in the deepest layers make the plates move and rumble, that creates an earthquake.
Due to the deepness of the faults, scientists can’t measure how they change, so geologists measure the seismic energy if an earthquake using a seismograph. They classify earthquake’s magnitude using the Richter Scale.
Scientists predict where the earthquake will occur by placing seismograph in fault zones and counting small earthquakes that we can’t fell. When several small quakes happen frequently, geologists know they should prepare for a larger one.

Talita's Profile

My name is Talita Cristina de Medeiros Almeida. I was born and raised in Natal/RN, Brazil. I'm 18 years old and I study BC&T at UFRN .
I'm not very sure about what I'm gonna do for my life and that's basically the reason why I choose this course. It will give me more time to know different areas of study and choose what I'm gonna do.
Besides studying, I love listening to music. Since I was a little girl, I always liked musics like rock or metal, and that used to be a problem. My mother is a very religious woman and never approved my musical taste, but two years ago, I met White Metal. It's pretty much the same thing but with christian lyrics on it. Since then, she could no longer complain. My favorite white metal band is Stryper, but I never stop listening bands like Iron Maiden, Rhapsody, Judas Priest. I just don't let my mother know it.
I recently started training acrobatics, it's incredibly fun. Most people think that training acrobatics is just to jump and to play like a child and it's good for nothing. But actually, it's about gaining confidence, expressing emotions and keeping the body in balance.
At the end of the year, I'll travel to England to do an English course. I'll spend around five weeks there. I hope that with this trip I may improve my pronunciation.

Marcelino's Profile

Hello, first of all my name is Marcelino Gois, I was born and raised in Aracaju-Sergipe, I live in a matriarchal family, which if formed by me, my mother and an old sister, my father and mother have been divorced for 10 years or so. I came to Natal in order to study on the federal university, I have chosen it because of the city appreciate me very me very much, it's calm and not big, and the choice of the course was made because I want to became an engineer but I'm not sure by now which area of it I will be taking. I'm a calm, lazy, shy and atheist guy, I don't have lots of friends, but true ones, I am lazy, extremely lazy, at a point that I don't do things I like because of laziness, and I'm far from being a studious man. The things i like most in my life are sports (soccer specially), music (metal generally) and my friends, I play soccer whenever I can with my friends, I play bass guitar, and I had many attempts of formind a band, which none of them were successful, but I haven't given up yet. I am not a greedy man, I have just a few goals in my life, graduating, maybe going a master degree, having enough money to live a simple life, raising a single child and watching the concerts I like.
